BOXWOODS ARE A MUST IN MY GARDEN!
It is not a lie that I LOVE using boxwoods in my landscaping, I don’t remember the exact time that I fell in love with boxwoods but every time I get the opportunity to use one of these amazing shrubs in my garden, I take advantage of their hardiness and classic look.

Creating a boxwood hedge is a simple way to add lines and frames to your garden, I have a few hedges made of these hardy shrubs in my home garden in Central Indiana, I consider myself Zone 5 (because the winters seem getting colder and colder) and these evergreens handle the cold like champs.
While using boxwoods for creating hedges may seem like an easy way to go, it requires patience… LOTS of it, boxwoods are known for being slow growing plants, and they also can be a bit pricey, using a dozen or two of these small shrubs in one-gallon containers can be a considerable investment depending on where you purchase them.
Throughout the years, I have learned to be patient, especially with boxwoods… some of my hedges have been there for a few years and others are very new.

As far as maintenance goes, I don’t consider boxwoods to be huge divas, they get some general well balanced slow-release fertilizer in the Spring, and if they are lucky and I remember they get another dose in mid-summer, the first few months when I plant the shrubs, I make sure to give them plenty of water at least once a week (more if Indiana weather gets a bit chaotic) but once established, they don’t really require much from me.

Boxwoods are those shrubs that I use to add some sort of formality to my already-wild garden, whether in a hedge, by themselves or in containers, boxwoods can be a beautiful green accent to any garden.

If you are wondering about varieties, for my home garden in Central Indiana in Zone 5, I use 2… Wintergreen and Winter Gem, they are both very similar and I often confuse them with each other, but both have that glossy leave look that I love in my boxwoods.
